Animatrik partners on Hyderabad mocap stage

Animatrik is proud to announce its partnership with Mihira Visual Labs and Annapurna Studios, delivering the most advanced motion capture facility in India: the A&M MoCap Stage.

We’ve spent years working behind the scenes on some of Hollywood’s biggest projects – from the sprawling battles of Warcraft  to the technical precision of Spider-Man: No Way Home. Our goal has always been to provide the tools that allow filmmakers to tell stories without technical limitations.

The stage was officially opened by director SS Rajamouli, who utilized the location to capture key sequences for his upcoming film, Varanasi, starring Mahesh Babu and Priyanka Chopra Jonas.

During the launch, Rajamouli noted that this technology is a game-changer for the region. “I reminisce how I could have made films like Baahubali even better if I had access to motion capture technology back then in India," he said. *"With the introduction of A&M’s Motion Capture technology, that gap has finally been bridged.”

The technology behind the stage

To ensure the facility meets the highest global standards, Animatrik has equipped the lab with the same high-fidelity systems used on major international sets:

  • Vicon Valkyrie (VK26) Cameras: 26MP cameras providing sub-millimeter optical tracking for high-detail character work.

  • Real-Time Visualization: Integration with Unreal Engine allows directors to see actors inside digital environments instantly.

  • Facial Capture: Stereo HMC units capture every nuance of an actor’s performance.

  • Previsualization: The setup allows teams to refine camera blocking and choreography in a virtual environment before principal photography begins, reducing the need for expensive trial-and-error on location.

A global resource in Hyderabad

As Annapurna Studios celebrates its 50th year, the A&M MoCap Lab marks a shift toward the future of production in Asia. The facility is designed to serve not just the Indian film industry, but also international film, game, and animation studios looking for world-class quality and speed.

“This collaboration represents a significant step in enabling filmmakers and creators to tell more immersive, emotionally rich stories,” adds Brett Ineson, President and CTO of Animatrik.
